Final Safety Grant Awarded
Rescue Squad to Provide AEDs to Community
We are excited to announce our final Community Safety Grant award in the amount of $13,500 to the Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad (CBVRS). CBVRS will use those funds to purchase and install Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the busier areas around town. CBVRS members also will conduct training on how to use them.
According to the American Red Cross, an AED is "a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shook, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm." Look for more information and where the AEDs will be located in future newsletters.
During the preceding months, we awarded Community Safety Grants to WWER 88.1 to provide backup generators that ensure the station stays on the air and online during power outages and emergencies, Riverkeepers Network to support regular water testing, and the Town of Colonial Beach for a beach access ramp.
Funds for the Community Safety Grants come from proceeds of last year's NNK Beach Music Festival.
Ornament Debut
Town Pier Ornament Debuts at Beach Music Festival
The Foundation debuted its new ornament at this past weekend's Northern Neck (NNK) Beach Music Festival. The ornament shows the Town Pier and Potomac River in stunning detail as seen through the arch and gazebo leading to the pier. It comes in a nice gift box making it a perfect gift for your friends and family who love Colonial Beach as much as you do. Get yours at Colonial Buzz or Beach Paws Boutique.
5th Annual NNK Beach Music Festival After Words
The purpose of the NNK Beach Music Festival is to gather our community at a fun event to build awareness, and raise funds to support the Foundation's mission "to improve the quality of life in and around Colonial Beach." We would now like to say thank you.
Thank you, Colonial Beach Community
Thank you, Colonial Beach, for again putting the "fun" in fundraising and giving to build community. It does indeed take a village to organize and run this large event -- over 100 volunteers donate their time and energy on the day of the event and hundreds of volunteer hours go into planning the event throughout the year. Thank you to all of you who purchased tickets, rented tents, bought ornaments, and participated in the raffles.
Also, a big thank you to the volunteers, festival goers, and police officers who rushed to the rescue of the tents, fighting the late afternoon sudden wind gusts to get them down safely, preventing possible injuries to people and saving most of the tents from damage.
Thank You, Sponsors
Your support is vital to keeping our costs down and success rate up. Thank you to:
Band sponsors -- Monroe Bay Campground and Eric Nelson, Coldwell Banker Elite
Beer tent sponsors -- Costellos Ace Hardware, Jett III Builders, and Prince William Marina
Friends of the Festival -- CBVArentals.com, Muse and Drift restaurants, Olde Town Insurance, Pearson's Seafood, Potomac Kitchen and Bath, Rawlings Electric, Scuttlebutts Restaurant Cobb Island, Sureflow Plumbing, T & T Golf Cart Rentals, Westmoreland Rehabilitation, and Walker Sand and Gravel.
Save the Date
The 6th Annual NNK Beach Music Festival will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
